Water Soluble: Substances or compounds that dissolve in water.
Water Table: The level of groundwater.
Water Well: An excavation where the intended use is for location, acquisition, development, or artificial recharge of ground water.
Well: A bored, drilled, or driven shaft, or a dug hole whose depth is greater than the largest surface dimension and whose purpose is to reach underground water supplies or oil, or to store or bury fluids below ground.
Well Field: An area containing more than one pumping well that provides water to a public water supply system or single owner (i.e. Municipality).
Well Injection: The placement of fluids into a well.
Well Monitoring: The measurement of water quality and quantity via field instrumentation or laboratory analysis.
Wellhead Protection Area: A protected surface and subsurface zone surrounding a well or well field supplying a public water system to keep contaminants from reaching the well water. Regulatory bodies often limit the type of land use or permissible activities in these areas in an attempt to prevent any contaminant from reaching these areas.
