D.L. Services Group is sincerely committed to ensure your family’s safety and peace of mind when a residential fuel oil spill occurs.  Your property will be returned to pre-spill condition, with “non-detectable” levels of petroleum hydrocarbons – a standard beyond many governmental regulations.  Such remediation criteria is vital to protect your family’s health, fully restore your property value, eliminate your potential future liability, and ensure your property can be insured in future years.

Residential fuel oil spills may occur for any number of reasons, including: failure of aging storage tanks due to corrosion; overfilling during fuel delivery; climatic events (frost heaving, ice fall, flooding); manufacturing defects; improper installations; malicious or accidental damage; and, sometimes combinations thereof. The spilled fuel oil will naturally migrate along the path of least resistance, contaminating anything that it may come in contact with.  Migration may occur: across surfaces (basement floors, bedrock planes etc.); through and along sub-grade conduits (drainage tiles, septic weeping beds, bedrock fractures etc.); through soils; into surface water courses and water bodies; and, to the groundwater table.  Once at the groundwater table, the contaminant may be transported rapidly on and off-site.  Serious legal implications may occur if contamination migrates onto neighbouring properties.

Vapours released from spilled fuel oil can contaminate interior air spaces, causing both aesthetic impact (i.e. unpleasant odour) and potentially adverse health effects if prolonged or acute exposure occurs.  If not properly addressed, fuel oil vapours can absorb into porous materials (i.e. insulation, drywall, soft furniture) and also condense on non-porous surfaces and household contents and result in exposure through skin contact or ingestion.  These hydrocarbons will remain in the home until they are properly removed.  Proper remediation is just that – removal.  Don’t be fooled by contractors who use odour masking agents to address only the aesthetic impact and not the source of the contamination itself.  Treatment of the aesthetic impact (odour) without removal of the source, means the exposure still exists.

It is important to respond to residential fuel oil spills as quickly and as thoroughly as possible in order to mitigate all impacts.  D.L. Services Group; a fully qualified, experienced, and insured contractor provides complete remediation of: soil; surface water; groundwater; and, air.  Our affiliate contractors may also provide professional cleaning of residential surfaces and household contents to rid them of condensed fuel oil vapours.  Foodstuffs and some household items and structural materials may be required to be disposed of, as not all materials can be completely cleaned of residual fuel oil.

“D.L. Services doesn’t just manage risk, we eliminate it.”

– Doug LeBlanc
